The Doors were an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles. They were formed by Jim Morrison (vocalist), Ray Manzarek (keyboardist), Robby Krieger (guitarist) and John Densmore (drummer). Their name was inspired by a William Blake reference in Aldous Huxley's book 'The Doors of Perception'; "If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite." The Doors were unlike anything anyone had seen or heard before, both unique and controversial, when Morrison died in 1971 they continued as a trio until 1973 when they split up. The Doors have since carried on throughout the years with various different vocalists.
