Bordered with intricate baroque designs, the background of this purse is black and has the alphabet marked out in an arc. Each side of “Goodbye”, two ornate planchettes are pointing towards the centre, as if ready to move. The design also includes numbers 0 to 9 and the words YES and NO, as well as a warning to use with caution – the power of the spirit world is not something to take lightly. The beautiful embossed detailing enhances the magic and creates a striking 3D effect.

The Ouija board is also known as a talking board or a spirit board, and the first one was commercially introduced by Elijah Bond on 1st July 1890. Originally, it was just intended as a fun parlour game, but during World War I, American spiritualist Pearl Curran used it as a divination tool. She believed that the dead were able to contact the living through the board. It is a flat board marked with the letters of the alphabet, the numbers 0–9, the words "yes", "no", "hello" (occasionally), and "goodbye", along with various symbols and graphics. Participants ask questions of the board, place their fingers on the planchette (a small heart-shaped piece of wood or plastic) and this is moved about to spell out words.
