A cauldron is a symbol of the womb of the Goddess, and of rebirth. Traditionally they were used for for cooking or boiling liquids over an open fire. Of course, many people do still use them in this way and in modern Wicca, it is one of the essential tools. They can be used as part of a ritual and placed in a sacred circle; either used to burn items, hold the spell or incantation ingredients, for scrying (the practice of looking into a vessel containing water, in the hope of detecting significant messages or visions), or to assist in the production of brews or potions. Of course, they are also used as decoration pieces in the home or garden.
