Selenite has a silky pearl-like appearance and is named after the Greek goddess Selene; goddess of the moon. It’s also called the Satin Spar, Maria Glass, or Desert Rose. The most common selenite crystals are white and translucent with beautiful striations (ridges, furrows or linear marks). It’s the striations that make selenite look unique and elegant. This crystal can be used to aid mental clarity and is ideal when there are a lot of things going on in your head which are starting to affect your sense of peace and quiet. selenite is also a protective stone which will help keep negative energies away, it can also heal your body with its healing energy. Keep a piece of selenite in a room to create a peaceful atmosphere, or keep one next to your bed to create a restful space and help you have a good nights sleep.
Taking Care of Your Crystal
One of the things that makes selenite a unique crystal is its ability to constantly self-cleanse and recharge itself. Other crystals need to be periodically cleansed of negative or residual energies through methods such as a salt water bath.
Selenite is a soft crystal so should be handled with care and not stored with other crystals that could scratch its surface. When storing, wrap it in a soft fabric so that its surface will not be damaged.
Selenite is water soluble, so it should never be rinsed or immersed in water. Doing so will cause its surface to erode.
It's best to keep selenite out of direct sunlight as this may cause its surface to crack and lose its lustre.
To clean off your selenite crystal, simply dust it lightly with a gentle cloth, never use cleaning products on it.
